100% success rate for our Chartered Engineers!

MGF are absolutely thrilled to announce that three members of our Engineering Team have been admitted as Chartered Members of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Huge congratulations to our Engineering Manager, Lee Womersley, Regional Engineering Manager, Rob Eagles and Principal Engineer, Richard Lawrenson who have successfully gained one of the most recognisable international engineering qualifications with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

MGF’s Engineering Director, Steve Hesketh commented:

“All three have worked tirelessly for several years to achieve this pinnacle of success within the construction industry and can now use the initials CEng MICE after their names, please join me in congratulating them on their outstanding achievement”.

The process to chartership starts with an application, supported by three sponsors, and a demonstration of competence in nine defined areas before a 5000-word submission, 15-minute presentation with an hour of questioning and a 2-hour written exercise.

Lee, Rob and Richard join 4 Chartered Engineers within MGF and continue to demonstrate the success of the departments professional training programme of producing Engineers of the highest standard and delivering on MGF’s long term commitment to employee training and development.

We spoke to the team about their industry experience and professional development.

“Starting as a Graduate Member with the Institution of Civil Engineering in 2007, I have worked towards becoming a member of the ICE with professional registration as a Chartered Engineer through the Engineering Council. Along the way to achieving CEng MICE, I attained Technician Membership (EngTech) in 2010, Member (Incorporated) in 2019 and passed the Experiential Learning Assessment in 2020. I have enjoyed developing my engineering skillset alongside personal qualities whilst working towards this landmark in my career. In addition, I have gained the knowledge and experience to assist others in their pursuit of professional qualification with the Institution of Civil Engineers.”

“I joined MGF in 2010 as a Design Technician.  I quickly liked what I saw at MGF with various routes to progress my career in a very stable and friendly environment.

MGF encouraged me to progress my academic qualifications with a HNC and part time degree on day release.  The benefit of being surrounded by a competent team of Engineers and Technicians in a fast paced environment enabled me to progress through my academic qualifications and achieve a 1st class honours degree.  By working and learning in parallel, I was able to grow with confidence and ascertain the vast skill set the ICE require.

Throughout my time with MGF I have been fortunate to progress from EngTech (2014), giving me good experience of a professional review environment, to IEng (2019) through the Career Appraisal route.  Due to not having a Master’s degree and to bridge the gap between IEng and CEng I worked through the experiential learning assessment process, making me eligible for CEng.  Finally towards the end of 2020 I submitted my Career Appraisal for CEng and passed.  I then added the final piece of the jigsaw and sat my Chartered Professional review in May 2021. I now look forward to continuing as a Delegated Engineer and helping my colleagues achieve their goals”

Our Principal Engineer, Richard Lawrenson, with over 30 years’ experience in the industry, decided to seek validation from his like-minded peers and he makes comment.

”Engineering today is simply fraught with uncertainty at every turn, from the worldwide pandemic, alarmist ecological environmentalism to the practicalities of meeting the governments ‘Net Zero’ targets.  It is truly an exciting epoch to be a practicing engineer, and I hope that our recent  professional recognition(s) will provide us with a stronger voice to disseminate our experiences and acquired knowledge to the rising generation of engineers to help tackle our problems and create a better future for all”.
