£50,000 raised for WaterAid

Over the past 15 months, MGF’s Technical Sales Representative Graham Denton has been working alongside 11 other volunteers to raise money and awareness for WaterAid.

Business4Life (B4L) is a scheme hosted by Wessex Water where a team of people who work within the water industry, run various events to raise money for WaterAid. Alongside MGF, this year’s team comprised of employees from Wessex Water, Nomenca and Interserve.

Following in the footsteps of MGF employees of past B4L teams, Graham Denton joined the 2017/8 group as a B4L Special Projects Officer, and together generated ideas for fundraisers before presenting to a board of directors and senior managers from the member companies. Tracy McMahon, South West Regional Manager, who works closely with Wessex Water, represented MGF on the board.

The team decided that alongside running the events, each team member had a personal target to achieve by the end of the term, so challenges such as coast to coast bike cycling, full body waxing and car boot sales were set.

The events included a bake off, Rocky Horror film and fancy-dress night, colour run, golf and race days raising an impressive total of £50,558.90. All the money raised this year is going to help provide clean drinking water and sanitation to the people of Madagascar, changing their lives for the better.

Graham commented:

“I would like to thank everyone who either came along to one of the events or supported me with my personal fundraising target. It costs £15 to provide clean water or sanitation to someone, so the money raised means we can help 3,370 people.”
