What is Civil Engineering?

Civil Engineering is everything you see that has been built around us. It is about roads and railways, schools, offices, hospitals, water, and power supply, including much more. The things we take for granted but would find life very hard to live without. Civil engineers help make our villages, towns, and cities habitable for the people that live there. They design, create, and connect the world for all our convenience. Civil engineers cover a huge range of roles across a multitude of disciplines within engineering. Civil engineers come from all different backgrounds, but they all spend years training, learning, and getting qualifications.
You can work on site, planning, managing, and constructing projects, or you can take a design role, where you develop solutions to enable safe structures and infrastructure to be built. Throughout your career it’s likely you will be involved with both.
What is the Grass Routes Apprenticeship Programme?
The Grass Routes Apprenticeship Programme is a fully funded career route that is offered to school leavers (Year 11’s and Year 13’s). The apprenticeship route will develop the necessary skills and experience, to help achieve a successful career in Civil Engineering.
The apprenticeship route encompasses the highest level of education whilst incorporating hands on work experience. Therefore, working and learning in parallel to gain maximum knowledge and experience.
