MGF is a very successful business specialising in the supply of excavation support equipment.

Established in 1981, MGF is a market leader in the design, manufacture, hire and sale of excavation support systems for the civil engineering and building industries. Our business is based on providing technical solutions to meet customer needs. MGF’s approach is to provide a one-stop shop for our customers, who range from small locally based sub-contractors to major multi-national contracting organisations.

We manufacture our own equipment at our Wigan based facility, and regionally operate out of strategically located depots. We are in full control of our service levels; we operate our own transport fleet and own one of the UK’s largest ranges of shoring and safety equipment.

MGF has ideally placed operational depots to service the HS2 Project as well as an extensive national network of operating centres within the UK. The HS2 project is strategically important to the MGF Group, and we are now looking for a proven professional to fill the role as HS2 Project Manager.



Responsible for ensuring all work winning opportunities are maximised through effective customer engagement and coordination of internal resources.

  • Provide exceptional personal involvement on complex and high value projects.
  • Provide a comprehensive and competent go to person by key HS2 delivery partners.
  • Provide focal role reporting on all performance issues.

 You will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Working on a regular basis with our Rail Sector and National Key Account Manager to ensure all key targets and relationships are managed effectively.
  • Ensuring comprehensive engagement with key support functions within the business to support winning activities
  • Ensure strategically cascaded information is proactively actioned.
  • Enhance the coordination of HS2 dedicated and non-dedicated resources to maximise opportunities.
  • Work across multiple regionally based teams to provide a seamless approach to the overall delivery of the HS2 project activities.
  • Escalation of all necessary matters to the senior management team to ensure all customer expectations are exceeded.
  • Report on a regular basis to the senior management team accurate and objective progress updates. This will involve reports to main board members at quarterly sales meetings.
  • Promote and coordinate best shoring practice through our customer base and HS2 project.
  • Achieving budgetary targets set by the business

Core Requirements

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working within a project management or senior shoring sector role.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to engage at all levels within large and small organisations.
  • Ability to understand and engage in complex schemes
  • Ability to understand and progress complex enquiries
  • Experience of working in a logistical and reactive environment.
  • HND in Construction or Engineering discipline or similar high-level qualification
  • Minimum of 5 year’s experience in a similar role preferred
  • Ability to learn new products quickly or follow technical guidance documents.

The role

The HS2 Project Manager role is a strategic senior appointment within the MGF group that recognises the importance of rising to the challenge that the largest infrastructure project in Europe is going to place on all those involved in its delivery.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will also work closely with members of the senior management team on a regular basis, who will provide both strategic and direct engagement support. You will also work closely with multiple regionally based operational, engineering, and technical sales teams to ensure a holistic approach to the delivery of all associated HS2 opportunities is achieved.

You will need to have the ability to work autonomously as well as working in an integrated manner across various regional based teams ensuring that the values and business performance targets are met.

You must have ability to engage with customers at all levels and able to demonstrate the ability to grasp complex and demanding expectations and have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy schedule and coordinate operational and work winning activities across multiple teams.
