As our 40th anniversary celebrations continue, some of our longstanding employees have been reflecting on their time working for MGF and sharing some great memories with us.
Based at our North West – Astley depot, Technical Sales Representative Antony Birchall has recently celebrated a huge milestone in his career of 20 years at MGF as he also enters his 29th year in earthwork support and temporary works design.

During his time working at our longest standing depot, Antony has played a key part in supporting the growth of the business across the North West having shown continued support to our customers whilst also developing some great long-term relationships.
Over the years Antony has worked on several large schemes within his area, one of the most memorable for him being Walton le Dale Wastewater Treatment Works scheme in Preston which was part of AMP 5. The site itself delivered some challenges with the £23.5m upgrade and requiring temporary works support for several complex excavations and involved Antony working closely with United Utilities and KMI Plus as ‘one seamless team’ to ensure the smooth co-ordination of the site’s temporary works requirements.

When asked about his favourite memory during his career, Antony said:
“I have so many fond memories of my 28 years on the industry and have had some good laughs along the way! I have met many people and characters during this period, both work colleagues and customers and it’s been a great industry to be a part of.”

Not only has Antony shown his commitment to MGF and the industry, he also enjoys taking on new challenges during his free time and regularly signs up for various events. The most recent being an 11-mile ‘WOW swim’: a one day across Lake Windermere in September 2020. This challenge pushed Antony to his limits, but he was proud to have successfully raised money for two charities extremely close to his heart: The Lilac Centre and Breast Cancer UK, in memory of his wife Annette who passed away in February 2018 with breast cancer.

Antony gave thanks to his ‘MGF family’ for their continued support having faced some extremely difficult times over the last few years and commented on how it has been a pleasure to see the company strive forward whilst still maintaining the family values that make MGF the company they are today:
“The time has flown, and I have made many happy memories with friends over this period, and I look forward to many more good years to come.”
Congratulations Antony on this fantastic achievement and enjoy the celebrations. Here is to the next 20 years!
