Since joining the team 8 years ago, Hannah has become a well known figure at our Stanton – East Anglia depot.

Tell us a bit about your role
I joined MGF in 2015 as a Technical Sales Representative for East Anglia and helped to grow the business in this region, servicing existing accounts and projects in addition to seeking new ones. Since then, I’ve progressed into the role of East Anglia’s Area Sales and Regional Account Manager, which involves managing key accounts and supporting both their site and office teams to ensure the most economic solution is implemented. A normal day for me can consist of a range of functions including Site surveys, tool- box talks, Business Development, Key Account Management, completing Design briefs, managing emergency requirements from the Anglian Water delivery partners and working alongside an excellent Team of colleagues to ensure our customers receive exceptional service.
What do you enjoy about it the most?
I love solving problems and collaborating with the various roles within MGF to ensure our customers and their projects are serviced to the highest possible standard.

What was it that made you want to follow a career in technical sales?
As a young girl, a career in Construction had never crossed my mind. It wasn’t until I concluded 2 weeks works experience with a masonry manufacturer, I developed an eagerness to learn more. Providing a service and engaging with people was always on the cards, and Technical selling offers the versatility to create relationships, work within wider Teams and offer guidance on Solutions and application where required.
Soon after, I started my first placement with Enterprise Utilities as an Assistant Plant and Materials Co-Ordinator on the EDF Energy Contract and within 3 years I’d jumped the other side of the fence, supplying Regional Contractors with non-mechanical Plant. The people in our Industry are what make is special. Everyday there is a new challenge to overcome and experiences to learn from.
Describe your background and how you got into the industry
Following on from my 2 weeks work experience with a Masonry manufacturer, I gained the opportunity for holiday work along my studies. Once my A-Levels were completed (which were not related to Construction) I wasted no time in finding a full time role in the Industry as an Assistant Plant and Materials Co-Ordinator for Enterprise Utilities on the EDF Energy Contract. It was a fast-paced environment with Teams calling in last minute requirements for deliveries of machines and aggregates for the next day and I loved it! The thrill of successfully completing a task under pressure and learning an array of information along the way sparked my interest in Construction further. 18 years later I’ve worked with some amazing people, met many life long friends and been part of some the largest Projects in East Anglia, such as the Dudgeon off shore windfarm of the Norfolk Coast and the new section of A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon.

What do you find to be the most interesting projects to work on?
All projects come with their own set of risks and challenges, some of them generic and some of them more specialist. My biggest success during my time as a technical sales representative was my involvement with the A14 road widening scheme, which is the 2nd largest project the East Anglian depot have serviced since it opened in 2015.
I enjoy working on projects which stretch my knowledge and force me to learn and develop. The experience gained in these scenarios not only benefit me personally but also my colleagues and our customers.

What do you appreciate about having strong working relationships with customers and how that benefits your job?
Unlike industries such as retail, where spontaneous purchases are made, the supply chain in construction is built on trust, integrity, innovation, and demand, all of which can only be established by creating and nurturing customer relations. I want my customers to feel they can call me with a problem and know the most viably economic solution will be presented to them with efficiency and dedication.
