Matt joined the MGF team 3 years ago, playing a key part in the launch of MGF’s UniShore® range and Structural support into the industry, as well as helping to increase coverage and build a strong national sales team.
Tell us a bit about your role
As National Sales Manager I’m responsible for managing our team of structural support specialists, supporting them in providing economic and safe structural support solutions across all areas of construction and civil engineering.
What do you enjoy about it the most?
I really enjoy seeing a job progress from start to finish, from discussions with customers early on to agree the right approach, through to the delivery and assembly of our structural support equipment on site by our customers or their sub-contractors.
Describe your background and how you got into the industry
32 years ago, I began my career in engineering through an apprenticeship. 14 years in and I wanted to get more involved in commercial aspects and left manufacturing to take up sales engineer and technical sales roles.
Now with 18 years in construction I have found that my engineering background is a great benefit, helping me to understand both the construction process and customer needs.
What do you find to be the most interesting projects to work on?
I love working on heritage buildings, seeing a dilapidated building being repurposed is very rewarding. I enjoy the diverse nature of the schemes that we work on, one minute were working on openings and alterations as part of a refurbishment project and the next were propping and jacking a bridge on the rail network.
What do you appreciate about having strong working relationships with customers and how that benefits your job?
I see every job as a partnership with our customers, they have work that they need to carry out safely but also often within tight timescales. Being involved in projects early on and working in partnership enables me to provide our customers with the right engineered propping solutions to help them carry out their works. Each project I work on is also a new opportunity to be innovative and ensure safety in construction.
