Introducing MGF's Technical Sales from our Astley Depot, John Maguire

My role is in Technical Sales for MGF at our Astley depot, covering areas in the North West, such as Manchester.

My role includes getting out to customer sites and offices on a daily basis to support our customers with any technical support they may require on new or existing schemes. This involves regular conversations with our customers and producing temporary works designs and hire quotations as well as teams meetings. I work hard to keep in contact with new and existing customers, to make sure they are happy with our service and they know we are always on hand to help.

Another part of my role is offering internal support to my colleagues, offering my advice, time and experience, in order for our customers to receive the best possible service.

I utilise both internal and external elements such as our customers, Engineers and Hire Desk to make sure I provide our customers with the support they require.

Everyday in my role is different, a new challenge, I enjoy getting out of the office to meet new people and build strong working relationships with both new and existing customers. Watching a project from that first moment of early engagement until our kit comes back from site is a very rewarding part of my job as I know our customers have received all they technical support they need throughout their works.

I worked on the Hire Desk for 15 years, this was a key part of my career progression as I got a full understanding of the day to day running of the depot. I then got the opportunity in our Technical Sales team, where I was tasked with pushing this area of the business and support our Technical Sales team, this was a great introduction into Technical Sales, from there I moved into our Shoring division where I started off as Sales Support then moving into the full role of Technical Sales covering the Manchester area, this is where I’ve been since 2022.

All projects are interesting from the small to the big, I enjoy the projects with different elements that we can offer support with. We are constantly improving and developing our products especially with our new Structural Support Solutions division and Lifting and Safety division, we are able to offer more support.

This is something I feel is extremely important to my job, building these relationships is key, they rely on our support and advice but also calling on sites and offices for a brew and a chat over the scheme is what I really enjoy.
