Tell us a bit about your role

My role is to assist our customers in identifying their needs and then liaising with our dedicated team of Engineers to provide them with a suitable, safe and value engineered solution from our UniShore® product range.

Structural support requirements can often be underestimated within temporary works and so often requires further investigation during the design brief process to help define what exactly is required before we can provide a suitable engineered solution.

What do you enjoy about it the most?

I enjoy regularly visiting sites, meeting our customers and being able to demonstrate my knowledge and experience of temporary propping solutions as well as highlighting to them the benefits that MGF’s UniShore product range has to offer.

Describe your background and how you got into the industry

A lot of my industry experience has come from working ‘on the tools’ but I never really felt that I had reached my full potential career wise. During my time on site, I worked with many technical sales representatives and always thought it was a role I could adapt well to.  So, when the project I was working on came to an end in 2006 I decided to apply for an opportunity working in formwork and propping plant hire, I was offered a position and the rest is history!

What do you find to be the most interesting projects to work on?

Covering the South East region, much of the temporary structural support opportunities that I’m involved in are in major cities like London, Oxford and Bath which naturally involves work to many historic, often famous buildings. These factors alone can raise a variety of issues that need to be considered when compiling a design brief for the customers including initial structural stability and access required for the moving and installation equipment. One of the main challenges is being able to interpret the customers exact requirements to be able to provide them with a bespoke solution, but for me these are the most interesting projects to work on.

What do you appreciate about having strong working relationships with customers and how that benefits your job?

I think it’s important that our customers have absolute confidence in both the Structural Support team and MGF’s ability to provide them with a professional service along with a safe, value engineered solution that is tailored to their needs. Keeping in regular contact and ensuring they are satisfied with the results is key to building trusting relationships. No project is problem free but knowing that we understand what they need and are on hand to help overcome any issues that might arise gives them the reassurance that they can rely on us as their first point of call for future projects.
