As MGF’s new HS2 Manager, based at our Rugeley depot, Tom will work with the rest of the Rail team to best support the industry.
We sat down with Tom to find out more about his role and his experience within construction.

Tell us a bit about your role
My role is HS2 Project Manager, this involves working closely with multiple regionally based commercial, operational, engineering and technical sales teams to ensure a holistic approach to the delivery of all associated HS2 opportunities achieved.
What do you enjoy about the role so far?
Coming from an engineering background, both on site and working on designs, I enjoy the fact that not only is this a customer facing role, but I also get the opportunity to call on my technical background too.
Can you describe your background in the industry?
After leaving university, my first exposure to temporary works was as a site engineer for a groundworks contractor. After a number of years on site, I then worked in design for a specialist lintel supplier. Since then, I have amassed over twenty years experience working in temporary works, on both above and below ground solutions.
What do you find interesting about the role?
The main thing that attracted me to the position is the opportunity to work on what is the largest infrastructure project in Europe in HS2. Not only will I be working with the joint ventures overseeing the delivery of the various sections, I will also work with the sub-contractors on site helping deliver the project.
What excites you about this role?
Joining MGF as HS2 Project Manager means that every working day involves contact with someone working on the project, whether this is internally with the operations, engineering and sales team or externally with one of the companies engaged in the delivery of the scheme.
How do relationships with customers benefit your work?
As a company, our prime focus is to best serve the customer. In offering the best service in the industry, we can ensure that this objective is reached. Ensuring a good, strong relationship with the customers is a benefit to both parties and makes the role far more enjoyable. The ultimate aim is to be considered as the “go to” person for all things HS2.
MGF are proud to welcome Tom to our Rail team.
