Kevin Celebrates 16 years' service at MGF

This year marks a great celebration for Regional Sales Manager, Kevin Martin as he enters his 16th year of service for MGF in the South West.

Kevin joined the team back in 2006 when he applied for the role of Hire Desk Controller based at our Bristol depot through an advert that he found in a local paper. After his initial interview Kevin was offered an alternative opportunity to work as a Trainee Technical Sales Representative covering the whole of the region. This was a completely new industry for him having previously worked as a Service Manager for a mobile crane company for 16 years, however Kevin felt it was time for something new. When the opportunity came up to work with shoring, it sparked an interest that made him want to step out of his comfort zone and learn more about both the products and the industry.

During his time at MGF, Kevin has played a key role in the successful growth of the business across the South West region. Since taking on the role as Regional Sales Manager 6 years ago, we have seen the opening of our second regional depot and now have an established team of highly skilled and dedicated technical sales representatives that service our customers across the South West.

When asked what it that he enjoys most about his role as Regional Sales Manager, Kevin commented:

“Before joining MGF I had never really considered a career in sales but after all these years of meeting different people and the many challenges that I have had to overcome, after 16 years it still interests me. Now that I am Regional Sales Manager, I can pass on my knowledge and experiences to my team to help them develop”

Over the years Kevin has been a part of many interesting projects and built some great relationships across the industry including working with Wessex Water, one of the biggest utilities providers in the South West for over 12 years. From working with company directors to the guys working in site, he has been involved in major developments, infrastructures, and assets.

In 2014, as part of the Wessex for Africa initiative for WaterAid where employees and partners provide clean water, toilets, and hygiene, Kevin gave up his time to visit the Burkina Faso in West Africa and help dig wells, install pumps, and transport large containers of clean water local communities.

He also worked closely with the team on one of the biggest projects in Europe, Hinkley Point C, providing suitable temporary works solutions as well as delivering toolbox talks, training, and providing onsite support. The £1million project which MGF supplied to is by 2025 expected to provide affordable energy to nearly 6 million homes across Somerset as well as creating 25,000 jobs.
