MGF’s Engineering Director, Steve Hesketh, recently presented Scholarship Awards to students from the University of Salford, Manchester.
The Civil Engineering students are now enrolled on the MGF Undergraduate Scholarship Programme, which currently provides scholarships for four undergraduate students within the School of Computing, Science and Engineering at the University of Salford as well as funding for two PhD students.
Students from the School were invited to apply for the Scholarship Award and were then engaged in an application process before being selected to join the Programme by a panel lead by MGF’s Steve Hesketh. Steve is part of an Industry Advisory Board within the University of Salford and has previously donated his time and expertise to advise the University on the UK shoring, construction and engineering industries.
Steve said: “It is humbling to see the difference that MGF support has had on the lives of students. It’s one of our aspirations to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics activities, particularly Engineering, within the local community. The percentage of graduates within our company that come from the University of Salford is very high, so we also have a natural affiliation with Salford through alumni.”
Two of the scholars from the MGF Scholarship Programme, Jagger Gledhill and Holly Craven, are currently on a six-week summer placement at MGF’s Design Engineering Centre based in Astley, Greater Manchester and will return to their University studies in September 2015. The placement provides the scholars with experience of working in a busy design engineering team and invaluable civil engineering industry exposure.
MGF are committed to investing in our people and in the communities in which we operate. The MGF Undergraduate Scholarship Programme with the University of Salford is a demonstration of how MGF are engaging with young talent and helping transform individuals through education, innovation and philanthropic support.
