These are the MGF engineers dedicated to our structural support service, providing temporary works solutions for above ground projects. We sat down with our structural support engineering team to find out more.

What are your key responsibilities?
I manage the structural support workload and engineers: producing and checking designs and drawings, liaising with our Technical Sales Representatives and customers. I visit sites to understand the existing structures and solve the problems within these restrictions.
Describe your background and how you got into the industry
I studied civil engineering at the University of Salford and during my first year applied for a sponsorship with MGF. Part of being awarded the sponsorship was the opportunity to carry out a summer placement. The following year, I returned to MGF and worked full time for 15 months, managing the shoring design work for the Yorkshire region. Following graduation, I went straight into the shoring industry, working on major projects in Europe, where I was able to make use of my French speaking ability.
Having spent time working on core Shoring and Major Projects, I was looking for a different challenge and found out about MGF’s newly released structural support equipment and haven’t looked back since.
What are your key responsibilities?
In my role as Graduate Engineer, my responsibilities include producing safe, practical solutions for above ground temporary works. I enjoy the team aspect and office environment of the job, MGF is a welcoming place to work that provides opportunities to expand your knowledge and understanding. For example, I was able to participate in the physical testing of S700 Steel, which in my opinion is a great opportunity for self-development.
What made you want a career in civil engineering?
I hadn’t come across civil engineering until starting my A-levels. My physics teacher at the time introduced us to Women in STEM and educated us on the importance of it. He often arranged for us to attend events regarding engineering which sparked my interest in the industry.

What are your key responsibilities?
As a Graduate Design Engineer for MGF, my key responsibilities are to produce bespoke structural support solutions, liaising with our Technical Sales Representatives and on occasion, clients.
What do you enjoy about your role?
The thing I enjoy most about my role is the fact that no job is the same. Every job is unique in its own way, this provides challenges that keeps my role interesting.
What made you want a career in civil engineering?
I have always been interested in construction sites. My elder sister is a structural engineer, so it motivated me to want to become a civil engineer. At university, I studied civil engineering because I knew this would be the field for me. I have secured my current position through my degree.
What are your key responsibilities?
My responsibilities are to design structural support solutions daily, working on multiple designs at once, I cover all aspects of civil and structural engineering. Managing my workload is a crucial part of the role to ensure all deadlines are met.
What do you find to be the most interesting projects to work on?
The most interesting part about temporary works is understanding the structural behaviour of existing structures, and how I can utilise our UniShore® range for load transfer and propping on different structures from buildings to arches. Then using all the knowledge I have acquired to design suitable, safe temporary works. Each project is different, allowing me to expand and develop my knowledge.

What are your key responsibilities?
As a CAD Technician, my duties involve the production of Temporary Works drawings and schedules to suit the Design Engineer’s specifications.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy being involved within the wide range of projects which are categorised depending on their complexity. I have always taken an interest in civil engineering, as it involves planning, design, construction, maintenance or even operating infrastructure.
Describe your background and how you got into the industry
My work experience has mainly been involved within mechanical, structural and civil engineering industries. I am a time served mechanical engineer and eventually became a CAD Technician at MGF due to an exciting opportunity that became available.
