The exciting journey of Owaiz’s progression to becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer

Owaiz Khan, National Key Account & Regional Engineering Manager, has worked at MGF for 17 years beginning his journey in 2003 as a Graduate Engineer. Since then, he has continued to learn, develop and progress into his current role.

As part of his career progression, Owaiz has recently gained the status of Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), an amazing achievement that showcases his drive for personal development.

Owaiz studied Civil Engineering at The University of Liverpool followed by a Master’s degree in Business Management. Soon after completing his studies, he joined MGF as a Graduate Engineer, progressing to Design Manager 4 years later.  Throughout this time, he continued to study and became a Regional Design Manager before moving on to his current role.

Owaiz’s position involves overseeing the MGF Regional Engineering team based at different locations across the country along with national key customer accounts and other commercial aspects of the business.

His initial interest in civil engineering came from seeing family members working in similar roles along with the sense of pride and awareness of the contributions one can make on projects.

Becoming a Member of the ICE was part of Owaiz’ s natural career progression and offers many opportunities for Engineers including greater credibility throughout the construction industry, setting a benchmark for a career path with attributes to work towards in your role and ultimately raising the standard of engineering across the industry and within MGF. As a company, MGF are thrilled to see how much Owaiz has achieved to date and how through his continued commitment to learning and development he has achieved such a high-level status with the ICE.

This has opened up the opportunity for him to now share the skills, knowledge and experience that he has gained over the past 17 years by mentoring others that are now beginning their journeys in similar roles, both within MGF and in the industry. Two-thirds of the MGF Engineering Team are qualified with the ICE and with others following the same route of progression as Owaiz did, his experience will play an important part in supporting the development of the Engineering Team and helping to continuously maintain the high standard of work produced.
