On 12 – 14th May 2015 at the NEC Birmingham, MGF will be showcasing our latest product innovation GRiPSHORE TM, a lightweight shoring solution for shallow excavations at the UK’s leading rail event, Railtex 2015.
The Railtex 2015 exhibition covers railway equipment, systems and services for visitors and exhibitors to come together and see the latest technology in action, learn about new products and services and hear about key industry projects.
GRiPSHORE TM is designed, developed and patent protected by MGF. It is the only lightweight modular GRP shoring product available in the UK currently that can allow site teams to safely reach 2m deep without the need for an excavator. Its innovative design is based on the use of structural grade GRP with its impressive strength to weight ratio, being almost as strong as mild steel but lighter than aluminium with little residual value which reduces the risk of theft. The product incorporates hydraulic trench jacks used widely in the states for the last 50 years. When the jacks pressurise the sides of the excavation, micro movements create compressive stresses within the soil that generate soil arching between the hydraulic struts, stabilising the trench wall. A protective area around the trench jacks is created in both the horizontal and vertical plane allowing the creation of a safe working environment in a confined, often congested service trench.
The trench box and waler designs combine trench jacking and traditional shoring methods making them capable of taking SWL of up to 16.5KN/m2 .
The product was launched in March 2015 and has already been well received in the rail sector as a practical lightweight shoring option. A bespoke designed GRP trench box was recently developed for Volker Rail and has successfully demonstrated clear safety benefits for their site teams.
