Supporting Future Engineers – Celebrating 10 Years of Making a Difference

An Incredible Celebration

We had the privilege of joining the University of Salford at a special event, the milestone celebration for MGF and Temporary Works Forum. Held at the Old Fire Station, it was an event full of heartfelt stories, proud reflections, and inspiring moments that reminded us why we do what we do.

2025 marked a major milestone for us at MGF, 10 years of supporting University of Salford students, and over £100,000 pledged to help the next generation of engineers thrive. It’s a partnership we’re incredibly proud of.

Since launching the MGF Scholarship in2014/15, we’ve been committed to giving students a real chance to succeed. These non-repayable awards have helped both undergraduate and postgraduate students focus on their studies, build confidence, and take their first steps into the industry.

As Director, Steve Hesketh, shared at the event:

"The number of engineers we've employed from Salford is astounding, and they've always been of excellent quality. We've worked all over the world, and our relationship with the University remains as strong as ever."

More Than One Celebration

We also celebrated 5 years of support for the Temporary Works Forum, who have contributed £50,000 to Salford students through their own scholarship programme. Their work in raising awareness of temporary works and embedding it into the engineering curriculum is helping shape a more informed, better prepared workforce.

Robin James, Operations Director at the Temporary Works Forum, summed it up as:

“Salford’s approach to levelling up is impressive, it frees students from worrying about funding and allows them to focus on their future. Supporting engineering undergraduates means they can give back to the industry, creating a positive cycle.”

The event featured a visual timeline of our journey with University of Salford, highlighting the impact of these scholarships over the years. Professor Simon Green spoke about the importance of access of access to education and how these awards are helping drive social mobility, with Salford ranking fifth in the HEPI Social Mobility Index in 2024.

Former MGF Scholar, Alawi Abdalla, shared:

“The donation helped ease financial constraints and allowed me to focus more on university. It gave me confidence in my academic journey. Now, I work in the engineering industry the scholarship helped me understand my options and shape my future.”

We are proud of what we have achieved together over the last 10 years, we are excited to see what is to come.
