As part of an initiative to improve on-site safety with respect to the assembly, installation and removal of Trench boxes, J. Murphy & Son’s approached MGF for advice and assistance, leading to the award of the Health and Safety collaboration award.
For several years now, MGF have been delivering Safe Systems of Work via our in-house R&D/Engineering team. This enabled us to develop a bespoke animated training video in close conjunction with the team at Murphy and importantly, in tandem with their own processes and procedures. Work began in November 2020, with the main emphasis on delivering best practice and safety.
The finished animation details in depth the preferred safe method of installing and extracting MGF trench boxes. It also provides sufficient product specific guidance on planning, handling, assembling, maintaining and removing the equipment, in line with the Safe System of Work. The animation displays how to install a trench box using a dig and push method as well as how to install associated safety equipment such as Edgesafe, Laddersafe and Davitsafe.
We created an animated video as realistic as possible using the relevant restrictions and guidelines. This assists the Murphy teams in understanding how the training can be applied in real time. The bespoke animation was rolled out internally from September 2021 and was made available to all Murphy employees.
Following the close collaboration on this initiative, MGF were immensely proud to be awarded the ‘Health & Safety Supply Chain Partner of the Year’ at J. Murphy & Son’s Ltd Supplier Awards Event. This evening was held at the Science and Industry Museum, Manchester, in November 2021.
