About MGF
MGF are a privately owned company whose primary focus is the provision of a comprehensive temporary works solutions service using wholly in-house resources.
Recognised as market leaders in the design, manufacture and provision of modular and bespoke excavation support systems, we are committed to providing our customers with complete engineered solutions and promoting current best practice for all types of excavation works.
Our latest venture is a complementary extension to our existing range of safety and handling equipment – an expansion into the lifting industry. A developed range of products and services allows us to further facilitate the needs of our customers and offer a one-stop-shop.
Launched in January 2020, our structural support solutions business offers a comprehensive propping solution that is less intrusive, minimises programme time and risk whilst ensuring the integrity of the supported structure is maintained.
We provide international service for all products from our depot locations across the UK.
With an emphasis on sustainability, our road map to net zero strengthens our relationship with our customers, enhances our responsible approach to business and contributes to combatting the global challenge we are all faced with by Climate Change.
Our History

Established in 1981 by owner and chairman Michael O’Hara at our longest serving depot, Astley, Michael imported German designed proprietary shoring products and began trading as MGF (Trench Constructions Systems) Ltd in the UK.
The company name MGF, is the literal translation from our German heritage meaning machines and appliances of the ground from Fernthal – region where the products were manufactured originally.
In 1982 Michael and his small team began to manufacture their own products from the Astley Depot, expanding the product range to manhole braces, drag boxes, walers and cylinders and mechanical 200 series struts.
In 1990 we were operating across the North West and expanded into the Midlands to further service our growing customer base.
We based our service on a ‘can do’ attitude from day one, placing our customer at the centre of operations – as such we expanded to meet demand; opening depots in Castleford, Durham and Bristol throughout the 90’s.
Our manufacturing facilities continued to expand as our hire fleet grew and in 2003 we opened our now Head Office location and dedicated manufacturing facility in Wigan, moving all of our support functions into one location to better service our operational depots throughout England.
Our product range has steadily grown through in-house design and manufacture to take us into new markets and locations, including Tring and Dartford, Exeter and most recently Livingston and Warrington.
Our People
MGF recognise that the ability to deliver exceptional service is dependent on a talented and engaged workforce, where people feel supported, can develop their skills, and have a clear understanding of our business objectives.
We have a policy of direct employment in the local communities in which we operate and strive to be an employer of choice through our commitment to employment policies that provide and promote a workplace free from discrimination, equal opportunities for all employees/applicants, and ensuring tolerance, respect and dignity. We provide a variety of employment opportunities to young people from
local colleges and universities, giving them a safe learning environment to discover a career path that’s right for them.
At MGF we want our people to feel proud of the organisation that they help to be successful, to feel valued for their contribution, empowered to drive their career forward, to make their mark among colleagues who share the same ‘can do attitude’ and passion for customer service, and above all to enjoy the experience of being part of MGF.
