Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025 with our Engineers

CELEBREATING NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 2025

It’s National Apprenticeship Week 2025!

MGF take great pride in supporting young people at the start of their professional journey. From our Graduate Management Trainee schemes to our Grass Routes Apprenticeship programme, we believe it is important to support young people at the start of their careers to set them up for future success.

This year, we sat down with our team of Trainee Apprentice Engineers to ask them what it’s like to learn their skills via the apprenticeship route.

National Apprenticeships Week

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AND WHAT ARE YOUR DAILY TASKS?

“I am currently training and learning how to be an engineer whilst also focusing on producing CAD drawings for the company. My day-to-day role combines developing my engineering skills through both practical work (such as my CAD drawing and training through my apprenticeship provider. “

Jack McNamara, Trainee Apprentice Engineer

“I am currently working as a technician to gain experience in making design drawings. Doing this as part of my role helps me go through different jobs that engineers have worked through and gain more knowledge on different engineering solutions and principles. The MGF engineers also explain why they chose specific designs for different types of jobs, which helps boost my knowledge.”

Tinashe Sveera, Trainee Apprentice Engineer

DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERINCE OF COLLABORATING WITH OTHERS IN YOUR ROLE

“Collaboration has been a key part of my role. I work closely with engineers, coordinators, technicians, and sales reps to ensure efficient workload management and high-quality design output. The supportive environment has helped me develop both technically and professionally. I have been at MGF for over 3 years now and have not come across any negativity in regard to other employees. Everyone is friendly and it helps with working as a team to meet business demand.”

Amaan Shahbaz, Design Co-Ordinator

“Great! I couldn’t ask for a more supportive and genuine workplace; everyone is always happy to help with any issues or questions I may have.”

Aaron Wallwork, Trainee Apprentice Engineer

What Challenges Have You Faced and How Did You Overcome Them?

“One of the most challenging aspects of my apprenticeship has been balancing theoretical learning with practical application. To overcome this, I focused on seeking guidance from both my mentors and peers at work, asking questions and looking to bridge this gap and to improve.”

Luke Eckersley, Trainee Apprentice Engineer

“Making the transition from school to work life. Adapting to a different typing of professional setting has been challenging and learning everything new, from working in an office environment to the engineering knowledge I’ve gained has been an enjoyable challenge.”

Max Quarmby, Trainee Apprentice Engineer

What Advice Would You Give Somebody Who Wants a New Challenge this National Apprenticeship Week 2025?

“Go for it! Apprenticeships are the perfect way to learn and gain experience whilst earning some money too. What more could you ask for?”

Aaron Wallwork, Trainee Apprentice Engineer

“It is great for your career development. You gain experience, get paid and are more likely to be a professional quickly. There are not many other opportunities better.”
