MGF Joins The 5% Club

MGF JOINS THE 5% CLUB

MGF, a leading provider of temporary work solutions, has showcased its commitment to developing its people by joining The 5% Club, an industry-led initiative focused on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates, T-Level students and sponsored students.

The 5% Club is a movement of more than 1,000 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers. Companies joining The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report. Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover all sectors including engineering, transport, and financial services.

Member companies now also have the opportunity to achieve accredited Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze membership status through the annual Employer Audit.

WHAT IS THE 5% CLUB

The Club was founded in 2013 and uses its platform and record of success to engage with policymakers and influencers on issues of concern and relevance, specifically increasing awareness and activity that links skills investment with discernible social impact.

At MGF, we’re excited to join The 5% Club because we’re passionate about helping young people build valuable skills after their GCSEs. We’re all about creating a strong company culture and know how important it is to invest in our people – not just for our business, but for the good of society as a whole.

We’re especially proud of our Grass Routes programme, which has made us a trusted name in local schools and communities. This industry-leading initiative inspires young people to pursue A-Levels or university degrees, giving them a head start on the path to becoming Chartered Civil Engineers.

“Our Grass routes apprentices gain invaluable insights into how engineering principles are applied to everyday solutions through working in a professional environment alongside our highly skilled engineering team,” said Lee Womersley, Engineering Manager at MGF. “This hands-on experience not only enhances their technical knowledge but also helps develop essential personal and task management skills. With access to experienced engineering professionals, a dedicated and fully qualified learning mentor, and a comprehensive apprenticeship training programme, they are equipped with the strongest foundation to launch a rewarding and successful career in civil engineering.”

WHY WE JOINED THE 5% CLUB

By being part of The 5% Club, we’re stepping up to support Britain’s future success, making a positive impact both locally and globally. Progress is at the heart of what we do.

We’re delighted to welcome MGF into membership. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR and L&D professionals sharing information and learning from each other. All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes, helping people develop meaningful career paths.

MGF'S HISTORY WITH APPRENTICESHIPS

Many of our team members have grown with us, starting out in junior or apprenticeship roles. Marc Lord joined as a Graduate Management Trainee, and 16 years (and seven promotions) later, he’s now our National Operations Director and part of the Senior Leadership Team. Today, Marc helps guide the next generation of talent at MGF.

No matter the division, there’s always room to grow at MGF. We give trainees and apprentices the tools they need to explore their interests, develop their skills, and carve out a career path that works for them. Supporting growth is a big part of who we are, and we’re always working on new ways to welcome young people into the team.
