This week, we were pleased to welcome the Lighthouse Charity’s #MakeItVisible team to our Head Office in Ashton-in-Makerfield, and to our Astley depot. The Lighthouse Charity is the leading charity supporting the construction community and provides free, confidential and 24-hour wellbeing, mental health and financial support to workers and their families.
As a proud charity partner, we are committed to helping raise awareness of the vital services they provide and ensuring our own teams feel supported. Bringing mental health support directly onto our sites reflects our commitment to adopting progressive approaches that move the industry forward.
The Make It Visible team delivered an impactful Lived Experience Talk at both sites. We heard honest and personal stories from the Lighthouse ambassadors, who spoke openly about their own journeys and the challenges faced by people working within the construction industry. These conversations encouraged our teams to reflect on the importance of looking out for each other and normalising discussions around mental health.
After the talk, we were invited to visit the Make It Visible van for confidential one to one conversation; this provided a safe space for colleagues to ask questions, share concerns or simply take a moment to speak with someone who understood the pressures of working in construction. The team were on hand throughout the day to offer guidance and information about the support available through the Lighthouse Charity.
Visits like this highlight how important it is to continue breaking down barriers around mental health in construction. Through open conversations and accessible support, we can help ensure no one feels they have to cope alone.
We would like to thank the Lighthouse Charity for spending time with our teams in Ashton-in-Makerfield and Astley. Based on the positive response from colleagues, we look forward to rolling these sessions out across our other depots so that even more of our workforce can benefit from the campaign.
